Hi friend! I'm so glad you're here. If you know me, you know that I LOVE shooting newborn sessions in my clients' homes. When you're in your own home, you can relax knowing that you don't have to pack the family up, get in the car and drive to a new location. Instead, I'll come to you in the environment that you are most comfortable in. If you're hesitant about booking your newborn session at home, don't be! Continue reading to learn about my 3 tips to prepare for your in-home newborn session.

Step 1: Prepare Your Space

I don't want you to stress thinking you need to clean your house spotless from top to bottom. As a mom of two littles myself, I promise I'm not judging you for the dirty dishes in the sink and toys around the house. My recommendation is to pick 2-3 spots in your home to focus on. My favorites are baby's nursery, mom & dad's room and the living room. Round up a few hampers to throw those dirty clothes, extra blankets and burp cloths in and literally shove them in a closet. Make the beds with fresh sheets (bonus if they're a soft neutral color). Add a few throw pillows to your bed and couch. And VOILA! You're all set.

Step 2: Identify Your Wardrobe

I cannot stress the importance of your wardrobe enough. Neutral colors will ALWAYS be a staple and never go out of style. Think soft whites, creams, beige and khaki. I promise your photos will look STUNNING when your family coordinates with these colors. I also love to add a bit of warmth and color if that's your vibe! My suggestion is to pick one soft color or pattern and coordinate the other outfits with neutral colored pieces to avoid too much business.

Step 3: Try to relax, mama!

After just having a baby, the last thing I want is to make your newborn session feel stressful. I allow ample time for feedings and diaper and outfit changes, so you never feel like we are running out of time. Go ahead, soothe your baby. Change that dirty diaper. Take a break to nurse (these are actually some of my favorite photos to take!). There is nothing else that compares to those first few weeks with your newborn, so try to relax soak it all in.

There you have it! My 3 tips to help your newborn session at home go smoother. I hope this helps you feel more confident about booking your in-home newborn session!
